Maia Bitadze co-chaired the Working Meeting of the Aarhus Convention in Geneva

The Chair of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee, Maia Bitadze co-chaired the 25th working meeting of the Aarhus Convention in Geneva.

Certain decisions at the meetings have been made related to the working program of the Convention for 2022-2025 and the strategic plans for 2022-2030. The mechanism within the Convention shall be established to ensure the rapid response to the punishment and persecution of the environmental protectors.

The special rapporteur will be appointed with the mandate to protect the hereof persons by means of diplomatic and other mechanisms. Due to the pandemic-related regulations, the meeting was held in a hybrid format.

The supreme body of the Convention oversees the effective implementation of the Convention commitments by the signatory countries.

M. Bitadze occupies the position of Co-Chair since 2015 and was re-elected in 2017.
