The Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee hearing the Annual Report by the Public Defender

The Committee discussed the report by the Public Defender on the Human Rights and Freedoms for 2020.

According to PD Nino Lomjaria, 5698 citizens addressed the PD Office on human rights violations and 8270 calls were received by the operator.

The East and West Georgia Regional Offices provided phone and personal consultations to 5684 citizens, 618 meetings were held with the population and local organizations. Based on the individual addresses, the PD has developed and issued 107 recommendations.

“I would prefer more discussions to allow us to take further steps. This meeting was productive and I believe our cooperation will continue”, - the Chair of the Committee, Mikheil Sarjveladze noted.

“I expect the Parliament to keep the tradition and share our recommendations and I believe, the considerations at the plenary sessions will be similarly interesting”, - N. Lomjaria stated.

The Parliament will hear the Public Defender at the plenary session next week.
