The Agrarian Issues and the EU Integration Committees discussed the report on the Thematic Inquiry “Challenges and Advantages of the Export of the Agrarian Product at the European Market” and the respective recommendations.
According to the reporter, Chair of the Agrarian Committee, Nino Tsilosani, the Thematic Inquiry Group has held meetings with the executive authorities, civil sector, entrepreneurs and agrarian sphere representatives.
The Group stressed issues such are the harmonization with the EU legislation, facilitation of export, local production and trade dynamics, EU markets etc.
“It is important that we share a free market with the EU, though are we ready to enjoy this opportunity? Naturally, we have progress, though it would be preferable to see less dependence on an unstable market and more opportunities of entering the stable market by our entrepreneurs and farmers. Agriculture is a sphere of vast opportunities and in case of the proper policy and due assistance, we can achieve quite a different picture and increase export of the production of our farmers to the EU market”, - the Chair of the EU Integration Committee, Maka Bochorishvili stated.
The lack of qualified personnel was named as a lingering challenge.
“The inquiry revealed the challenges in various directions, including in terms of the qualified personnel and new need more efforts to render higher assistance to our farmers for the production of a better product to be able to enter the EU market”, - the Chair of the Agrarian Committee stated.
She dwelt on the recommendations and hoped that the executive authority will share them to facilitate the introduction of Georgian agrarian products to the EU market.
The Committees approved the recommendations.
